So today is the first day we've had snow this season. I was approaching a stop light and it was snowing but the roads were just wet so no biggie. As I'm about to go as the light turns green, it starts. The weird sleet like stuff. So now on top of the water already on the road, there's this odd white stuff. So I go about 3 blocks. I have to make a right at this next corner, all is going well. So I signal, as all good drivers do, and when I go to brake I realize I've braked too late. How did I know this? The ABS made noises and the pedal started vibrating. That and the car kinda didn't turn. So after some Oppo and some smooth rally car driving I manage to correct and get going in a straight line safely towards my destination. It must be said I'm lucky there wasn't a car in the other lane when I slid a bit wide. Otherwise we likely would've collided and that wouldn't have been fun.
So, interesting story for my first time driving in snow. We're getting winters put on this weekend so grip should be better. AWD is quite good. So tonight was interesting to say the least.

I remember the first time I experienced ABS. 1994 Bonneville, sounded like an ostrich mating when it kicked in.

Freezing rain? We get that a lot here. It falls wet, but as soon as it touches something, it turns to ice. Makes for terrible roads.

Not quite, it was coming down as like snow pellets but wasn't quite hail but wasn't quite freezing rain. Either way on tires with nearly ~40,000* miles on them and you get it a bit wrong and kinda sideways it's gonna be fun getting her straight again.
*I don't know exactly how many miles are on the tires but there's a little under 55k on the car.
